System restore on HD?

I added a 2nd HD recently. It worked OK @ 1st but now it usually doesn't even get recognized & when it DOES, a balloon saying "Delay write failed" always pops up. I read that this is regarding Sys. restore. SO when the HD gets recognized, I check to disable Restore on that drive but then my WHOLE PC freezes & I need to do a hard shutdown. I'm thinking it's a bad cable. But is there any solution you could offer? Maybe a way to turn off Restore via the Registry or something?? Thanks!
