Can a judge and the district attorney discuss a case before it has been tried?

I have been told by a very reliable source that the judge, lawyers, and district attorney have been talking about my son's case before it has even gone to court. The district attorney has already stated that she is going to nail my son before hearing anything on his side. I don't think they should be discussing the case over beers am I correct? I would call this collaboration and not fairness. Please respond. Thank you.
