Is a guinea pig good for a 10 year-old?

I really want a guinea pig. I had one, but it died because I didn't know how to take proper care of it. But now, I researched it, looked at the brochure at Pet Smart, googled it, and looked up how to take care of one on ASPCA(They rock!) . I even looked a guinea pig up on Wikipedia! So I'm pretty sure that I know how to take care of one now. But my mom won't let me because she's afraid that the same thing will happen again. So I was wondering if it would be good for me to have a guinea pig.
