Has a return to fundamentalist beliefs set civilisation on a path to oblivion ?

George Soros, a man I admire, has said that he believes the US and others, have turned more and more in recent times towards Market Fundamentalism, Military Fundamentalism and Religious Fundamentalism. I agree, and see it as a very retrograde development. Whilst we often hear commentators rattling on about Islamic Fundamentalism, we hear little in main-stream media about fundamental tendencies in 'The West'. Does any of this worry you, uming you accept the proposition, and what can individuals do to counter this trend ?
